Caught in the Act!

See where the stars (Nicole! Fergie! Leo!) have been seen and heard.
Nicole Richie, continuing her 25th birthday celebration with a bash at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills. She arrived with beau Brody Jenner and partied with 50 of her closest pals, including Mischa Barton and Selma Blair. When the birthday girl finally left with her posse at 10:30 p.m., dad Lionel Richie's "Running with the Night" was blasting.

Leonardo DiCaprio, joining a high-wattage crowd at a fashion show, dinner and party at London's Earls Court hosted by designer Giorgio Armani to raise money for RED, the charity founded by Bono to help fight AIDS and HIV in Africa. 50 Cent (in Armani) reveled for a good cause (and feasted on antipasto and risotto Milanese) alongside Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Ashley Judd. What was Bono's goal for the night? "Have some fun, try not to fall over."

• A somber-looking Donald Faison, telling a friend while partying at the Tao Nightclub at the Venetian in Las Vegas that he and CaCee Cobb have broken up.

• American Idol star Justin Guarini, performing at a premiere party for the launch of the syndicated series American Idol: Rewind at L.A.'s Spider Club. Former AI contestants Kimberly Caldwell, Mikalah Gordon, Vonzell Soloman, Anthony Federov, AJ Gil, RJ Helton, Jim Varraros and LaToya London cheered him on.

Thomas Jane, chomping on a cigar at a bash at The Lot club in West Hollywood to celebrate South Park's 10th season. So, where was his wife of three months, Patricia Arquette? "She's working – she's out bringing in the money and I'm going partying."

Fergie, seeming a bit dazed and confused at an album-release party at New York City club Tenjune. At the fete, fellow Black Eyed Pea Willi.i.am presented the singer with a diamond necklace and tiara. "You can't be a duchess without a proper crown," he told her, making reference to her chart-topping solo album's title, The Dutchess.

Tuesday, 10:09 PM: The show finally kicked off at 9:55, only 55 minutes late. Nicky and Paris walked together to "Surfin' in the USA" (left). Nicky looks so matronly compared to her sister. Paris strolled the runway again by herself to cheers. Her poofy hair took up most of the catwalk. And oh there's Mya modeling.

Hottest Front Row: Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs' show is one of the most highly anticipated of New York Fashion Week, not just for the innovative clothing and to-die-for purses, but for the high wattage of his star-studded front row. And last night, he did not disappoint. From the indie-cool Zooey Deschanel and pregnant Sofia Coppola to starlets Kate Bosworth and Mischa Barton (left) to friends-of-Marc Dita Von Teese and Winona Ryder, the paparazzi were going crazy. But everyone's eyes were glued on one section of the front row where normally camera-shy Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher (top right) took in the show with Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey and her special guest Victoria Beckham (bottom right), sporting her new short hair and an intense black leather corset belt. And even more stars, like Ashley Olsen, showed up for his ultra-exclusive afterparty. Wonder who will make it to his Marc by Marc Jacobs show later today? Check back for more coverage of Fashion Week updated throughout the day.

Paris Hilton and Travis Barker, making out in full view of clubgoers at New York City hot spot Butter at a party hosted by Kanye West. The duo snuggled and whispered in a corner banquette in the back of the club and the rocker – who is divorcing Shanna Moakler – had his arm around her. When West's song "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" began playing, Hilton stood up and started dancing near Barker. So, what's brewing between the two? "They like each other. Paris really likes him. Beyond that I cannot comment," says Hilton's rep. "Paris is single right now. You may in the future see her in the company of other men."

Also making the scene: Usher, Lil' Kim, Nick Cannon, Serena Williams and Nicky Hilton.

Jessica Simpson, chilling with Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Scott Sartiano at New York City club Pink Elephant. First Peek: Tom, Katie, and Baby Suri

Vanity Fair Exclusive: Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Talk About Baby Suri; 22-Page Family Portfolio by Annie Leibovitz

NEW YORK, N.Y.—In a private conversation with Vanity Fair features editor Jane Sarkin, Katie Holmes tells her that "it's been heartbreaking" to see what's being said in the press about her family and her baby. "Some of the crap that's out there—the stuff that's said about my parents and my siblings [tabloid accounts implied that Katie's family did not hit it off with Tom]—it's really frustrating the amount of shit that's out there. And the stuff they say about Suri?! You shouldn't say that about us, and you can't say that about my child."

Holmes explains that the gossip "eats away at me because it's just not O.K.," but that she keeps up on it because "this is my future. This is my family, and I care so much about them. To see how someone as caring and good as Tom is—to see how things can just get so twisted and turned around. I mean, where does it come from?"

Sarkin spent five days with the Cruise-Holmes extended family at Cruise's Telluride, Colorado, compound, sharing meals, taking hikes, and hanging out. Bella and Connor, whom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted during their marriage, were there, as well as Holmes's mother and father, Cruise's mother and sister, and other family members.

Endowments of an Heiress

Last March, 26-year-old heiress and socialite Casey Johnson found out from the New York Post’s “Page Six” that the man she thought was her boyfriend, John Dee, had had a relationship with an older woman: her 56-year-old aunt, Libet Johnson. The ensuing feud, waged in the pages of the Post, tore a rift within the Johnson & Johnson family. 1:31 PM: It's a good day to be Ivana Trump: as there are no other celebrities here, the paparazzi have swarmed around her-I can't even see in front of me because there are so many cameramen blocking my view.... 1:25 PM: At the Marc Bouwer Show. Just sat in my front-row seat. There was a bit of a wait just to get inside - they appear to be way off schedule. On my seat is a goody bag, but I don't think I have to report these items to the IRS: a travel-size Aveda cleanser, a small tin of sugar-free Altoids, Creative nail polish in the shade Red Baroness and a CD of an episode of the newsmagazine show, In the Life which, the sleeve informs me, airs on Public Television.

MTV Video Music Awards After-Parties

Beyoncé arrives at the 40/40 Club to celebrate her birthday and the release of B'Day.

Manhattan was scene central last night as an army of Moonman-toting musicians and their friends descended on seemingly every hot venue in town. Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. took over Buddkan, where Sean Combs and Paris Hilton kicked back; Virgin Mobile and Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo (who had reason to get a little crazy after Gnarls's double win) hosted the action at Gotham Hall, where guests were treated to performances by the Rapture and Arckid (Liv Tyler's husband's band); and 50 Cent and LL Cool J rocked out at the Tao bash sponsored by Blender magazine and Glacéau Vitamin Water. And that's not to mention the festivities at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club, where Beyoncé, toasting her 25th birthday and the release of her new album, B'Day, had one more reason to smile: her win earlier in the evening for Best R&B video.

The Biel Curve

Jessica Biel
At 24, Jessica Biel is taking steps out of the perspiration-drenched worlds of action and horror movies and into the powdered milieu of A-list fare, first with a role in last year's Elizabethtown and now in this summer's The Illusionist. Biel emerged onto the small screen at age 14 as a farm-fresh preacher's daughter on the WB's 7th Heaven. Then she made one of those Freddie Prinze Jr. pictures (Summer Catch), acted in a 'shroom-alicious Roger Avary film (The Rules of Attraction), and hit her stride in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Next, newly equipped with a six-pack, she was the action chick in Blade: Trinity and Stealth. But now … ahhh … the characters she plays have last names, and she finds herself among Oscar winners and nominees. It's fair to say that Jessica Biel est arrivée. —JIM WINDOLF

Keri Russell's Bare Essentials [more]

Keri Russell

In the fall of 1999, Keri Russell made bizarre-television history when, as the eponymous college student of the WB series Felicity, she received an unfortunate on-screen haircut. Rather than rely on Hollywood trickery, Russell allowed her below-the-shoulder ringlets to be pruned into a boyish do for the show's second season. Talk about a buzz cut: ratings declined, a media circus ensued, and the WB's entertainment president was quoted as saying, "Nobody is cutting their hair again on our network." Russell emerged from this baptism of fire with her humor intact, and seven years later she is laughing about another close shave, again courtesy of J. J. Abrams, the co-creator of Felicity who has now directed Russell in Mission: Impossible III. Mariah Carey's comeback came full circle Thursday as she was nominated for eight Grammys, including album of the year for "The Emancipation of Mimi" and song and record of the year for her torch ballad "We Belong Together."

Carey's eight nominations tied
John Legend and Kanye West. Soul crooner Legend's nominations included best new artist, while his mentor West is up for album of the year for "Late Registration" and song of the year for "Gold Digger."

Other multiple nominees included
50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, U2 and Bruce Springsteen.

Springsteen was among the surprises — his "Devils & Dust" was nominated for song of the year, along with
Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road," Legend's "Ordinary People," Carey's "We Belong Together" and U2's "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own."

U2, nominated for five awards, was also represented in the album of the year category for "
How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb." Besides Carey and West, other nominees in the category were Stefani for "Love. Angel. Music. Baby" and Paul McCartney's "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard."

Besides "We Belong Together" and "Goldigger," record of the year nominees included the Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." featuring De La Soul, Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Stefani's "Hollaback Girl."

One of the big snubs: Coldplay, who's "X&Y," one of the year's biggest albums with hits like "Fix You," was shut out of the album, song and record of the year categories. But they were nominated for rock album of the year.

The Grammys will be handed out in Los Angeles on Feb. 8.
