Summer Swimsuits

Whether you’re planning on splurging on a single suit or stocking up on a bunch of budget bikinis, it’s always nice to know what’s out there before making any summer swimwear decisions. (click image to enlarge)

At WhoWhatWearDaily.com, we like to do the research for our readers, so we spent the last few weeks searching stores and calling in samples in pursuit of the season’s best bathing suits. We’ve gathered a group of bandeaus, maillots, and many other non-French-word styles that just might make you excited to shop for swimwear.

Nicole Richie / Zimmermann Wategos Bikini ($180) We fell for the darling prints and flattering cuts of Zimmermann swimwear the second we spotted them at Hillary Rush last spring. The Australian line will debut their clothing collection stateside this fall, but until then we’ll make due with their fantastic suits, like the above Wategos bikini. We think the vintage-style print would appeal to Richie as much as it does to us. We found the suit in two styles online, a triangle top Wategos Bikini ($180) or the Cross Back Bikini ($148), or get the exact style at an Intermix store.

Rachel Bilson / Eres Joan Top and Blue Bottom ($380) This structured suit in a unique shade of purple is perfect for a youth sophisticate like Bilson. The black eyelet rings at the hips are a nice detail that gives the brightly hued suit a subtly sporty vibe. Can't you see Bilson wearing it with an oversized patterned scarf as a pareo? We found the suit online, but you can also visit the Eres website for boutiques and availability.

Ashley Olsen / AE Bandeau Bikini Top and Bottom ($34.45 for both) This well-priced black bandeau bikini from American Eagle Outfitters is a classic and sexy choice, so it’s perfect for Ashley Olsen. Not to mention the fact that it completely reminded us of the Belle De Jour dress from Elizabeth & James.

Chloe Sevigny / Delia’s Boy Short One-Piece ($34.50) The combination of the retro shape and black-and-white gingham makes this stylish one-piece so very Sevigny-like to us. We could see her wearing the plaid suit with some vintage sunglasses and an ironic smile.

Katie Holmes / Karla Colletto Mainsail Maillot ($198) The twisted rope detail on the front of this bandeau one-piece adds a hint of trend to the suit’s timeless lines. It’s also available in a lovely scarlet shade, but we think the elegant navy would appeal to Mrs. Cruise.

Rihanna / J. Crew Twist-Front Bandeau ($44) and Bikini Bottom ($38) Now is the time to experiment with neon bright swimwear, and we’d expect nothing less from the always-adventurous Rihanna. The bright citrus lime shade is balanced by the suit’s clean lines and would show off Rihanna’s gorgeous skin.

Ashlee Simpson Wentz / Peonie Swim Leopard Juju Bikini ($145) The Los Angeles-based line Peonie Swim has loads of celebrity devotees (like Nicole Richie) and we understand why. The collection includes lots of go-to styles, like this triangle top bikini, in quality patterns ranging from psychedelic swirls to non-cheesy animal prints. This leopard suit seemed very ASW to us, plus, with a little re-tying, it can accommodate any physical fluctuations! The suit is available at the lovely Los Angeles boutique Presse and elsewhere online.

Sienna Miller / Chloe Scribble Pattern Bikini ($345) Ms. Miller’s got a good picker when it comes to swimsuits (remember how her black-and-white striped Vix suit was all the rage?) and we think she’d select something like this bikini from Chloe. The gray scribble pattern is in keeping with the season’s artsy trend and the wide halter straps will flatter most chests.
