Trend Report

After a super somber fall season (we’re not complaining, just saying), the exuberant spring runways were a visual treat.

One of the trends we loved was the sort of global bazaar vibe many collections seemed to be channeling. In the spirit of the above image from the Oscar de la Renta show, we pulled together some of our favorite items in keeping with this theme. Feel free to indulge, nothing’s over $200!

1. Topshop Animal Print Dress ($70) Always on trend and affordable, Topshop naturally has the most fantastic global bazaar offerings. We love this cotton (machine washable!) animal ikat print dress with a drop waist.

2. Forever 21 Eclectic Composite Necklace ($8.80) One of the fall’s main jewelry trends—the statement necklace—is lingering through the spring. This Lucite and plastic bead necklace with metal charms is quite sophisticated for Forever 21 and a great way to update your accessory stash.

3. Cocobelle Studded City II Sandal ($98) It is imperative to start sourcing your spring and summer sandals now, as the best (most attractive, not necessarily most expensive) tend to sell out early. We suggest trying these Grecian-style leather sandals in brown, as shown above, black or natural. The stud detailing and ankle tie give the good old gladiator a bit more interest.

4. Yves Saint Laurent Mosaic Sun Powder Palette ($57) While a beauty product might seem like a non sequitur, we had to include this beautifully patterned bronzing powder from YSL. It’s one of the rare products pretty enough to come out in public.

5. J. Crew Wide Hand-Painted Enamel Zebra Bangle ($68) At Just Cavalli, the models strode down the runway with thick bangles on their wrists. If a forearm full of bracelets seems a bit over the top, you can still get a hint of that feeling with this eye-catching bangle. It’s available in brown, as shown, as well as black/white and yellow/white.

6. H&M Woven Clutch ($12.90) While you’re more than welcome to buy a big-ticket tribal clutch from say, Oscar de la Renta or Fendi, there are also many other options that won’t max out your credit card. This fantastic (seriously, it’s amazing in person) woven clutch won’t be available at your local H&M until mid-February, but a piece with this price is worth the wait.

7. Spitfire Candybar Sunglasses ($35) As we’re talking all things spring today, why not throw in a pair of sunglasses? These oversized frames with curved sides are an easy classic to incorporate into your collection. We like the subtle details, like the curved arm and white and brown frame.

8. Anthropologie Brown Scalloped Rhinestone Cocktail Ring ($98) Part of the global bazaar style involves wearing pieces that are inspired by natural materials (like wood and tortoiseshell). The shape of this coin-sized, resin, glass, and brass cocktail reminds of an exotic shell.

9. Diane von Furstenberg Printed String Bikini ($175) DVF is the mistress of prints and has an eye for how a simple but bold pattern can really elevate simple design. Just check out the above swimsuit for an example. The string bikini’s classic lines aren’t exceptional, but the suit as a whole is, thanks to von Furstenberg’s black, tan, and white print.
